luzmila carpioLuzmila Carpio - Ama Sua, Ama Llulla, Ama Qhella

"Ama Sua, ama llulla, ama qhella" is the Inca moral code that says "do not steal, do not lie, do not be lazy". Song written and composed in the mid-1970s by Luzmila Carpio in defense of the indigenous cultures of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. In a decade where cultural diversity is threatened, her objective is to remind the message of their ancestors: "Waranqa wataq pasachun, Ama chinkachunchu Waranqa wataq pasachun, Ama chinkachunchu Keshwa parlayninchiq, Ch'uwallakakuchun. Keshwa rimayninchiq Ch'uwallakakuchun # Ama sua, ama qhella, Ama llullakuychu Ama sua, ama qhella, Ama llullakuychu, Jina yuyarisun Inkaj parlayninta! Arawi is a song originally composed for piano by Simeon Roncal, lyrics and arrangements by Luzmila Carpio. The arrangements made by Luzmila Carpio look for a dialogue between the human voice and the kena flute. For Luzmila Carpio, this song expresses an hommage to the nature made by the humankind, an hommage inspired by the philosophy of the quechua and aymara cultures where the respect, the reciprocity and the quest for harmony are at the center of all life. The lyrics are written in quechua : "Jamuy sumaq kausay takirisun, Kuntur Mallku jina phawarisun, Rosas t'ika jina phancharisun, Yachayninchiswanyaw" Luzmila Carpio artistic work has always been associated with a deep engagement of the artist with values such as ecology, humanism and ethics based on her rich indigenous tradition. "The Voice of the Andes" is the nickname given to the Bolivian singer Luzmila Carpio by her admirers. A star in traditional music of the Andes, Luzmila Carpio has gained international praise for her traditional Quechua songs that have brought indigenous Bolivian culture and history to the world. Born in a small village perched in the Andes Mountains, she has been taught from childhood the secrets of Aymara and Quechua traditional singing and became increasingly conscious of her cultural heritage. From 1969, when she recorded her first song titles, until today, Luzmila has gone on to become the Queen of Bolivian singing and has already recorded more than fifteen albums, four of which have been awarded gold records. She has won the admiration of the public by the exceptional purity of her voice, capable of rising to unimaginable heights and by the high quality of her repertoire, nourished from the purest of sources of a tradition lost in the shrouds of time. Just when you're getting used to the sound of her flute-like voice, she goes even higher, soaring like the flight of the Andean condor over the Altiplano. Her numerous tours have met with critical acclaim and won the respect of ever-growing legions of fans, and artists such as Mercedes Sosa. Yehudi Menuhin said upon hearing her: "Luzmila Carpio is a violin that sings". Sounding at times like the great Inca diva Yma Sumac, Carpio has created a movement based on the ancient Quechua credo of the creation of the earth. Her ...

An Homage composed and written by Luzmila Carpio for María Sabina (1894 - November 23, 1985) a Mazatec curandera who lived her entire life in a modest dwelling in the Sierra Mazateca of southern Mexico.
